My husband who is Egyptian, and myself, want to do tours in Egypt. Ideas please
He has years of experience in the tourism trade there, especially Luxor, his home town, and we have long dreamed of organising tours, with ideas about making our service unique.
It would be web based with lots of impartial advice and a forum with feedback and maybe a travel club
I know a travel agency is very expensive to start up, so need to know if 'tour operator' may be an option, or any other info, it will be based here in uk. He is not familiar with our regulations, and nor am I. I think the abta regulations may be based around offering flights, and we dont necessarily have to do this, but could offer to book flights on clients behalf, (just a thought) hope there may be a way to start, any ideas greatly appreciated

Hello Julie
I have just assisted a Tour Operator the the Carribean set-up. Egypt is competitive and Tour Operation is not cheaper than a Travel agency. Your main set-up costs will be: Registration with regulatory body like ABTA & INsurance Bond which is about GBP40k, in addition to other marketing costs such as Website & Legal to secure partnerships over in Egypt. But you do have an advantage as your husband is from over there. My key advice will be for you to undertake good research to identify other tour operators, their strengths & weaknesses and find your Niche. Do contact me on 07908 990 377 if I could be of more help
Best of Luck
